Enterprise Holdings, the St Louis based owners of Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Alamo Rent A Car and National Car Rental has announced a scheme which it claims will reduce the amount of energy used by the firms as well as the amount of money spent on energy consumption. The project has been called the 20/20 Vision programme, as Enterprise says that it wishes to reduce consumption and expenditure by 20 per cent over the next five years.
The company predicts that by coming up with energy saving initiatives it can reduce its bills over the period by around $50 million.
The initiative has already begun in some markets. At its St Louis headquarters, Enterprise has already replaced all of the lighting in its parking garage. The company claims that the use of a more energy-efficient system will save around $50,000 per year.
In Southern California, Enterprise has spent $20,000 on replacing the lighting in a parking-lot at an administrative office; a move it predicts will save on energy waste as well as $14,000 in bills every year. Enterprise Holdings said that it aims to outlay around $900 to replace the lighting in each of its outlets and thus reduce energy use by around 70 per cent.
Director of Sustainability for Enterprise Holdings, Lee Broughton, said that reducing energy consumption was a great way to reduce the company’s environmental impact whilst also saving money. He added that Enterprise was looking for its managers to come up with innovative ways to reduce the amount of energy being used.
